The Mountains That Move Us Series
I was only age 4 when my Dad was transferred from Quebec to Vancouver Island, that I first experienced the mountains. For the next four years, we travelled through them each summer to visit family in rural Alberta. It was always Dad and I in the front of the truck, while my sister and Mother slept in the camper, so I had a full view of the mountains as we went (no booster seat laws, no backseat in truck, and no standard vehicle air bags back in the 70’s). I remember being in awe of their sheer magnificence and size, their longevity, the immense raw power it took in creating them, the abundance and variety of flora and fauna that inhabited them, and just absolutely falling in love with the very sight of them. I’ve been fortunate to continue to travel them my whole life and moved to Calgary so I could see them daily. I’ve even been lucky enough to see the alpenglow effect on the mountains both at sunrise and sunset. Those images, treasured memories, and emotions have stuck with me, and I hope to express that in this series.
The series of 10 large paintings right now, takes us on an emotional journey of awe and connection with nature, which all humanity needs to de-stress and combat depression over the state of society and the earth.
